Hiking as a sport has garnered a large fan base over the last few decades. With the advent of technology, modern hiking gear has been able to push the sport’s popularity up the charts. Most hikers prefer to undertake some basic form of hiking which lasts not more than a day. However, there are professionals who go into the depths of the wilderness and spend time. These wildernesses may be varied in geography. They may be part of a desert system. Dry and arid. Many of them are at the foothills of mountains and ranges. Many are at the top of it. Whichever, you choose, it is pertinent from the location that they are way out there in the countryside and far away from civilization.

Some of the most popular hiking routes are mountain hikes. These are hikes which navigate through steep mountain paths and the sheer height and the fall below is mind-numbing. Certainly not for vertigo-challenged.

Mountain hiking has its own excitement and risks. It becomes dangerous if certain precautions are not taken. Height, by nature, is fraught with danger and any fall from there will lead to either grievous injuries or even death. Hence, it is important to follow the instructions.

Fitness:

This is a must. Mountain hiking is a strenuous exercise and if one is not fit then this endeavor is bound to fail. Mobility and agility are two of the foremost requirements when it comes to mountain biking. While planning the route it is imperative to understand the risks involved and the limit to which the body can take. The best advice would be to get back to shape and increase agility and flexibility along with stamina and then give it a shot.

The Gear:

Once the planning has been done and the terrain mapped and agreed upon, start packing. The terrain and the geography of the place will decide upon the kind of gear one will carry. Do not carry heavy. For mountain hiking, light is the key. Just pack the essentials and leave the rest. If it’s too cold, then protection needs to be ensured. Jackets and warm clothing has to be a part of the luggage. Also, the kind of shoe that needs to be worn while hiking in the mountains is different from the normal ones.

Emergency Kit:

This kit will have a torch with enough batteries, medicines to beat the bug and preferably flares to attract a possible rescue. The emergency kit is the lifeline of any professional mountain hiker. It has kept handy all the time and if used, replenished.
