Hiking is an outdoor sport which involves a lot of walking over uneven terrain. That would also entail climbing, trekking and crawling at times too. These movements require not only a great deal of fitness but the right gear too. So while you have decided on the route you would go for hiking, the packing is yet to be done. In fact, the packing list is dependent on the kind of trekking or hiking you are undertaking.

Newbies to the sport, more often than not, make the mistake of packing anything and everything, not understanding the dynamics of a successful hike. Agility and mobility are key in completing a hike successfully. The routes are usually steep regions with a lot of uphill movement. However, if the hike is a straight walk then nothing much needs to be done. The map will decide what all needs to be carried. Also, terrain knowledge will guide one in creating a comprehensive packing list.

Part Of The Pack

To begin with the clothing. This is of utmost importance since the clothing you wear, and the pack is your first protector against nature. If it’s a hot and arid region, then, of course, the clothing mix will be different. If the region is prone to rainfall, then what you wear and also carry will be reflective of the conditions you will face. Windy areas usually warrant a light jacket since there is always a possibility of the temperature dropping towards the evening or night.

The tent. If it is a day hike, then, of course, you will not need one. If the region has an overnight stay facility, then do not bother to lumber around with a tent. However, if the hike has been planned across multiple days and nights, then an all-weather tent has to be a part of the entourage. The market is flush with sturdy weathers which can face the storm. One important that needs to be kept in mind while buying a tent is to check whether they are flame resistant or not. This is because there may be occasions where you may decide for a quick cook or pace a heater inside. Most modern tents are fire resistant though.

Emergency lights. The essence of a hike is to visit a place which is far away from civilization. And that would mean lack of power. Electricity is what powers the modern industry. Lack of it what powers the adventure sports segment. A powerful torch with enough batteries as back up is a must. Not just to navigate your way up or down the path but also toward away animals which do coming sniffing at your food.

Food and water, and you know how important this is. Carry enough water for the journey. Also purification tablets in case it runs out and nature becomes the only viable source.

Medicines. You will fall, get hurt, feel dizzy, have stomach cramps, suffer from nausea. The answer to all this is medicine. Carry them. They are as essential as your clothing.
